So a lot of people have been saying how "AMERICA" is in crisis. But is that True? Let's look at the data.
The reality is that New York City and the states that border it got hammered. But when you look at the rest of the nation you see numbers that are very good compared to most of the world. The data seems to clearly show that "AMERICA" seems to have handled the crisis very well but that NYC did not. (Which is very ironic because the media seems to be saying Trump has done a terrible job but the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, has done a great job... but I digress). This pattern also seems to follow in other hard hit countries. The virus seems to be a REGIONAL issue. Shouldn't we respond accordingly? The reality is that the numbers in the vast majority of the country for Covid deaths per month are still on par with a bad flu season.
So why are all these states shutting down and in states like Hawaii and Maine, extending the lockdowns.
Look, I get it.... no one wants to be the next New York but we should keep in mind New York took essentially the same measures in about the same time frame as everyone else. In fact in Hawaii the virus got there 2 weeks earlier and they locked down later. Can we think of anything that separates New York from places like Hawaii or the rest of the country? Is it coincidence that all our major outbreaks have happened in dense urban areas? Is it a coincidence that New York is the most dense urban area in America with an absolutely jam packed subway system filled with healthcare, hospice and nursing home workers who could carry the virus right to the most at risk?
Sure we need to take action to keep this illness under control, we need to protect the most at risk, but let' s stop comparing Nevada, Hawaii, Utah, Arizona etc etc with a location and situation that is a complete outlier in so many respects. The "cure" is going to be much worse than the illness if we don't turn things around fast and it's time for Americans to make that known.
